The Whistler, a crime melodrama, was broadcast from May 16, 1942 to Sept 8, 1955, by CBS.
Some actors who played the Whistler include Gale Gordon, Joseph Kearns, Marvin Miller, and Bill Johnstone. John Dunning comments, in his book On The Air: the Encyclopedia of Old-Time Radio, that "supporting casts were from Hollywood's Radio Row, players who appeared so often they were known as "Whistler's children" - Cathy and Elliot Lewis, Joseph Kearns, Betty Lou Gerson, Wally Maher, John Brown, Hans Conried, Gerald Mohr, Lurene Tuttle, John McIntire, Jeanette Nolan, Frank Lovejoy, Jeff Chandler, Mercedes McCambridge, Joan Banks, Donald Woods."
"The Necklace was Incidental" is one of those shows where the original broadcast is missing, yet the printed copy of the script still exists. It was broadcast on June 9, 1948. One of our goals is to bring those lost stories back to life, as an audio presentation.
