The
Great Gildersleeve - Winning
the War
One of America's
favorite comedies during radio's golden age, The Great
Gildersleeve was broadcast weekly on NBC begininng in 1941 and
continuing through the late 1950s. Approximately thirty programs,
many
from the wartime years, are among oldtime radio's "lost"
episodes.
This is the first in a series of re-creations performed by the
Lexington, KY chapter of American Radio Theater. Originally
broadcast
on September13, 1942, Gildersleeve devotes himself to "Winning the War".
In
the Bag
