Cyrano de Bergerac is my favorite play. There have been many translations from the original French play written by Edmond Rostand in 1897. We started with an old radio script, which didn't have any indication of having been produced on radio. Using that as a base, I went back to the play, to bring the script back into a resemblance of the original.
The challenge for ART was to bring such a famous theatrical play, of five acts, down to 45 minutes, without losing the essence of the play. We hope we've been successful.
NARRATOR:
Is beauty only skin-deep? Ask the man or woman who lives with deformity and learn how deep the scar may go. To possess a soul that yearns to blossom with great love, actions and deeds yet is imprisoned by misshapen body or ugly face-that is the tale we are about to tell...
